Foreign Trade Zone
1 Trade Zone Drive, Ronkonkoma, 588-5757

Conveniently located on the grounds of Long Island MacArthur Airport and near major rail and roadways, the 52-acre zone is Long Island’s only authorized site where foreign and domestic merchandise is considered to be in international commerce. Established in 1982, the Foreign Trade Zone’s first decade produced an 80% occupancy rate, which has since climbed to 95%. Tenants may delay payment of customs duty and excise takes until the actual time of transfer from the Zone to the United States. Tenants enjoy the Foreign Trade Zone’s duty-free policy when merchandise is imported into the Zone, processed and exported to a foreign market.

Housing Authority

  • The Town of Islip Housing Authority manages 350 units of federally subsidized elderly/senior citizen apartments at four sites: Oakdale, Central Islip, and Bay Shore(2 sites). It also manages 18 units of family housing in Bay Shore(2 sites).
  • The Housing Authority also administers the Section 8 rental voucher program, a federally-subsidized HUD rental assistance program, in the Town of Islip for 1,036 recipient families.

Resource Recovery Agency
401 Main Street, Islip, 224-5644

  • The Islip Resource Recovery Agency is a public benefit corporation created to assist in the planning and the development of waste management facilities in the Town. The Agency owns the MacArthur Resource Recovery Facility and provides refuse and recyclables collection to approximately 1300 homes in the Town through its collection unit.
 
Industrial Development Agency (IDA)

  • The Town of Islip IDA is a public benefit corporation of the State of New York established in 1974 pursuant to Section 898-b of the New York State General Municipal Law. It is a quasi-governmental, tax exempt Agency whose purpose is to promote, develop, encourage and assist in acquiring, developing and equipping various business facilities, thereby advancing the job opportunities, general prosperity and economic welfare of the people of Islip Town.

TOWN OF ISLIP COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AGENCY

  • The Town of Islip Community Development Agency is best known for its affordable housing programs for first time homebuyers (housing lotteries) and for assisting existing homeowners to renovate their homes with zero interest loans (housing rehabilitation program).

  • The CDA was created by New York State legislation in 1976 at the request of the Town of Islip. It is an independent agency that is strongly affiliated with the Town. There are two primary objectives of the CDA:
    • To assist low and moderate income residents of the Town through housing and public service programs; and

    • To remove blighted conditions in residential and commercial areas.

  • The CDA has been designated by the Town of Islip to administer four federally funded programs from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. These programs are: the Community Development Block Grant Program; the HOME Investment Partnership Program; the Emergency Shelter Grant Program; and the Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS Program.
