Temporary Access to Fire Island Increased
Islip, NY – Islip Supervisor Tom Croci recently signed an emergency order granting wider civilian access to Fire Island. Temporary access to year-round residents and/or property owners will be permitted at the following dates and times for those whose homes lie within Islip’s borders:
Anyone wishing to venture to Fire Island during these allotted times must travel by ferry service that runs between Fire Island’s communities and the mainland. Private travel by boat or by road is not permitted. Visitors will also be asked to supply personal identification and proof of property ownership for law enforcement personnel.
“The safety of our residents remains our primary concern, given the catastrophic damage on Fire Island. Fire and Emergency service teams along with contractors, plumbers, electricians and inspectors have improved conditions to the point where limited and temporary access is appropriate for homeowners and year round residents," said Supervisor Croci. The Town facilities at Atlantique Beach and Marina remains off limits to the public.
