Councilwoman Trish Bergin Weichbrodt Proclaims Rose Brucia Stranger Safety Awareness Day

Islip, NY- Councilwoman Trish Bergin Weichbrodt Presented the family of little Carlie Brucia with a Proclamation announcing August 22, 2010 is Rose Brucia Stranger Safety Awareness Day in the Town of Islip.
Young Carlie Brucia was just 11 years old when, in 2004, she was abducted in Sarasota, Florida. The Nation was crippled by images from a surveillance camera, located behind a car wash, which captured Carlie being led away, by her alleged abductor.
“When Carlie’s Family asked me to be a part of this event, I was so moved by their ability to turn their tragedy into something that will protect all of our children,” says Bergin Weichbrodt.
“It has been our focus to help other families avoid a personal tragedy,” says Matthew Barbis of Holbrook, who is Carlie’s cousin and the Founder of the Rose Brucia Educational Foundation.
The Rose Brucia Foundation was named after Matthew's grandmother, and provides educational puppet shows and DVD’s to school-aged children to teach them about the importance of Stranger Safety Awareness and the knowledge of self-defense to avoid abductions.
