Season’s First Snowfall Blankets "Civil War Christmas”

December 11th, 2017 – It was a winter wonderland Saturday for the annual Civil War Christmas, as the first snowfall of the season dusted the grounds at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Oakdale. Islip Town Historian George Munkenbeck joined with the Oakdale Historical Society, Friends of Connetquot River State Park Preserve, Co. K, 67th NY Infantry, Society for the Preservation of Long Island Antiquities, and the Islip Arts Council, to re-enact old-time Christmas activities and provide guided tours of the church and churchyard. Families in attendance met with costumed participants and were treated to the sights and sounds of the 19th century.
