East/West Industries Celebrates and Commemorates Opening of New Facility with Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

RONKONKOMA, N.Y., June 22, 2017 – East/West Industries recently commemorated its move to a spacious new facility during a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by employees, vendors, customers and local VIPs.

Founded on Long Island in 1968, the company designs and manufactures aircraft seats and other products critical to crew safety and survival. The move, which was necessary to accommodate growing demand for East/West’s products, increased office and manufacturing areas by 75 percent – from 30,000 square feet to approximately 50,000 square feet. The company is also actively hiring and plans to expand its 75-person workforce by 40 percent over the next three years. In addition to a dedicated production line for each individual seat program, the new facility features a 3-D printing lab, high-speed machining and other innovations that will reduce product development and production time.

“We want to recognize and thank everyone who made this new facility possible, and everyone who shares our commitment to saving aircrew lives,” said company President Teresa Ferarro. “For nearly 50 years, everything we’ve done has been built on a foundation of hard work, integrity, and a very personal commitment to doing the right thing for the aerospace customers we serve.”

Ferraro specifically expressed appreciation to Angie Carpenter, Islip Town Supervisor, and Bill Mannix, Executive Director, Town of Islip Industrial Development Agency. “We are committed to staying and growing right here on Long Island,” Ferarro said. “Your support has been invaluable in helping us continue our commitment to this community.”

“This administration has a responsibility to foster a business-friendly environment that retains and creates local jobs,” Carpenter said. “I am proud that our IDA was able to work with East/West Industries to keep their business in Islip, and help keep Islip prospering for all our businesses and our residents.”

“Like most of our aerospace companies, East/West Industries was courted by many other states, but chose to remain on Long Island, where the company was founded in 1968,” said Mannix. “We are grateful that they stayed, and are glad that our IDA tax incentives played a role in that decision.”

Original equipment manufacturers like Bell Helicopter, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and Sikorsky to name a few, install East/West seats and other products on the aircraft they manufacture, including some of the newest commercial and military platforms under development.

Long Island MacArthur Airport Welcomes Frontier Airlines

Islip, NY - Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter was joined by Long Island MacArthur Airport Commissioner Shelley LaRose-Arken, members of the Islip Town Board, elected officials, and representatives from Frontier Airlines, at a press conference announcing Frontier Airlines’ new daily nonstop service from Long Island MacArthur Airport (ISP) to Orlando (MCO) beginning August 16, 2017.

“Customers in the Long Island region consistently ask for competitive fares and more options from ISP,” said Angie Carpenter, Islip Town Supervisor. “Our research shows, Orlando continues to be a top market for us, and we are pleased to announce Frontier as a new airline partner at MacArthur Airport. Every passenger using MacArthur Airport adds to our local economic prosperity. We know that Frontier’s service to Orlando will translate to roughly $800,000 a year in concession revenue alone. That means more jobs and more opportunity for our area,” said Supervisor Carpenter.

“The growth of Long Island MacArthur Airport will benefit our economy and the region’s business community, and thus I commend Supervisor Carpenter for partnering with a new airline that will help the airport realize its full potential,” said Kevin Law, President of Long Island Association.

Frontier will be offering introductory fares of $39 one way. Providing service since 1994, Denver-based Frontier Airlines currently serves more than 60 destinations system wide with nearly 300 daily flights, and will serve ISP with Airbus A320 aircraft.

In addition to the airlines’ ultra-low-fare status, Frontier bundles customer costs via the WORKS℠ or the PERKS℠” strategy.

“For almost three years, Frontier has introduced ‘Low Fares Done Right,’ bringing affordable and friendly travel to millions across the country.  We’re excited to bring this to Islip as well as work with the local community to make these flights successful. By giving our customers choice, we offer a way to travel for everyone. With our a la carte or The WORKS and The PERKS bundled options, we allow our customers to pay for what they want to,” explains Tyri Squyres, Frontier Vice President of Marketing.

What else should passengers expect with Frontier Airlines? “Onboard our aircraft, MacArthur Airport passengers will enjoy a high-quality customer experience and some of the widest seats in the airline industry,” said Squyres. “We work hard to enhance service options. The engineering on our slimline seats makes them lightweight and maximizes each passenger’s comfort. We’re even boosting the size of our middle seats, so no matter where you sit on the aircraft you will be able to relax and enjoy the flight.”

While the seats and service inside the aircraft are a benefit, Shelley LaRose Arken, Commissioner of MacArthur Airport, takes notice of what Frontier Airlines’ is doing outside the plane, as well.

“Frontier is an innovative and professional airline working hard to ensure its aircraft are fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly. The airline flies one of the youngest fleets in the industry,” said LaRose-Arken. “Frontier uses the latest engines, and wingtip sharklets that extend the aircraft range and flight distance, while also reducing fuel consumption,” she added.

“Our recent work to enhance marketing and Air Service Development is gaining the attention of our airline partners. We know there is a tremendous opportunity for enhancing the customer experience at ISP,” explains MacArthur Airport Commissioner Shelley LaRose-Arken. “Frontier recognizes this, and we are so glad they want to FlyMacArthur!”

“We compete for every passenger. We expect that Frontier’s business model will result in lower fares and increasing demand for Orlando service from ISP,” LaRose-Arken explains.

“The airlines’ route system and goals match up very nicely with MacArthur Airport’s Air Service Development plans. Frontier’s decision to serve ISP validates both our potential and our commitment,” said LaRose-Arken.
