Testing EXTENDED: Montauk Branch – Babylon

February 7th, 2019 – Please be advised: The Long Island Rail Road track safety testing on the Montauk Branch between Babylon and Montauk, previously scheduled to end today, Thursday, February 7th, has been extended one day. The program will continue tomorrow, Friday, February 8, 10:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. in order to complete the work.

January 10th, 2019 – The Town of Islip is currently accepting nominations for the 2019 Women’s History Celebration. The Town of Islip will recognize individuals who live and/or work in the Town of Islip, and who have made significant contributions to the Islip community. The celebration will take place at the afternoon Town Board Meeting on Tuesday, March 19th.

Town Employees to Recognize P.S. I Love You Day

February 6th, 2019 – P.S. I Love You Day is held every second Friday of February, making it February 8th, 2019 this year. On this day, Islip Town employees will wear purple to stand up against bullying, help end depression, and ultimately prevent suicide.

Town officials are asking residents to join in, and wear purple in the hope that as you walk around your community, school, or work office you see a sea of purple.

Islip Supervisor Angie Carpenter Announces Free CPR Training in the Town of Islip

January 31st, 2019 – Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter joined Suffolk County officials today to announce that the Suffolk County Department of Health Services will be offering free cardiopulmonary-resuscitation training classes for residents during the month of February in the Town of Islip. The trainings will focus on chest-compression-only CPR, which, according to the American Heart Association, has the same statistical odds of saving a person's life as traditional CPR. Classes are open to teenagers and adults.

“February is Heart Health Month, and serves as an important reminder to make intelligent lifestyle choices, including exercise and eating right,” said Supervisor Angie Carpenter. “Enrolling in a life-saving training course however, could be one of the most important decisions you’ll ever make, and we’re proud to be a part of this invaluable program.”

Community Workshop Set for February 4th

January 25th, 2019 – Downtown Central Islip was selected as the winner of the $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) in the Long Island region. New York State’s DRI seeks to “transform communities ripe for development into vibrant neighborhoods where the next generation of New Yorkers will want to live, work, and raise a family.”

Join us at the Central Islip Senior High School Cafeteria on Monday, February 4th, 2019 for a second Community Workshop detailing more about this planning effort. Come tell us what you think about potential project proposals to spark economic vitality and generate growth in downtown. Your input will help identify the selected projects that will be recommended for state funding as part of the DRI Strategic Plan. See the flyers below for full details.
