In 1988, The Town established the first large-scale municipally operated shellfish hatchery and nursery culture facility. The objective of the Town of Islip's Shellfish Culture Facility is to provide a sustainable source of seed clams to assist the recovery of stocks and to rebuild the public resource in the bay.
