Islip Town’s 30th Annual Sharpshooter Basketball Contest a Success

Islip, NY – Islip Town Councilman Steve Flotteron and Councilwoman Mary Kate Mullen recently attended the Town’s 30th Annual Sharpshooter Basketball Contest. This annual tradition brings together children in fourth and fifth grade from across Islip Town for some friendly competition and to help promote drug and alcohol awareness. The event was made possible through the efforts of the Islip Parks and Recreation Department, Northwell Health, the Islip Elks and the Islip Housing Authority.

“Over 8,000 children participated this year in qualifying events at their schools and in the finals,” said Councilman Steve Flotteron. “For decades, the Sharpshooter Contest has been one of our proudest traditions and has helped inform our kids about the dangers of substance abuse.”

“It’s incredible to watch kids from all across our Town come together and celebrate the anti-drug message,” said Councilwoman Mary Kate Mullen. “I’m sure this event will be just as successful over the next thirty years.”
