New Carbon Monoxide Legislation Takes Effect June 28th

The Town of Islip wants to remind commercial business owners that tomorrow is the deadline to comply with the new New York State Carbon Monoxide legislation that was passed in June 2015.

The Town, together with New York State, has been notifying commercial business owners that effective June 28, 2016, new carbon monoxide detector legislation will take effect.

This new NYS legislation requires that commercial businesses constructed after January 1, 2016 and which require a fire alarm system, must also have a hard-wired carbon monoxide detector in place.

Businesses that do not require fire alarm systems are required to have hard-wired carbon monoxide alarms with battery back-up.

Businesses constructed prior to January 1, 2016 may retrofit their establishment with a 10 year lithium ion battery carbon monoxide alarm.
